100 Days of Nonviolence

Day 4

Opening Breath and Affirmation:

Take a deep breath or two, and say: I will be Nonviolent by devastating mediocrity, I will ask the question “what else can be done to realize the Dream?”

Quote of the Day:

"Dialogue is more than your giving me space to say my words and my giving you space to say yours. It involves our listening. We are all very different. We cannot have dialogue unless we honor the differences." –Elizabeth O’Connor

Today in Social Movement History:

On January 18, 1958, Willie O'Ree became the first Black person to play in the National Hockey League. He appeared in two games that year, and 43 games in 1961, and is sometimes referred to "the Jackie Robinson of hockey" since O'Ree broke the color barrier in that sport, as Robinson had in baseball.

Saturday's Organization:

The Positive Peace Warriors Network works towards a culture of positive peace through the institutionalization of Kingian Nonviolence.  By providing communities with the opportunity to explore the skill and will of Dr. King’s philosophy, we will learn from the past, creatively apply lessons to our present and foster a better future. They are especially well known for their work INSIDE jails promoting Kingian Nonviolence. Find out more at: http://positivepeacewarriornetwork.wordpress.com/aboutu/

Activity of the Day:

The King Center is calling for a moratorium on violence for 24 hours. Get ready for no shots fired on Jan 20! How will you commit?

Respond:

Write or draw about a time when you participated in an activity with an organization dedicated to the creation of the Beloved Community. Express some of your feelings and sensory memories in a written or graphic form.
