100 Days of Nonviolence

Day 12

Opening Breath and Affirmation:

Take a deep breath and say, I will be Nonviolent by giving to others in need.

Quote of the Day:

"An act of love may tip the balance." –Elie Wiesel

Today in Social Movement History:

On January 26, 1993 Toronto (Canada) Women in Black demonstrate in solidarity with their Serbian sisters, who were facing the gender-based violence that often accompanies war.

Sunday's Character of Nonviolence:

The character of nonviolence today is Ruby Doris Smith Robinson, who worked with the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) from its earliest days in 1960 until her death at the age of 25, from cancer, in October 1967. She was an amazing leader, and worked tirelessly...though the times were urgent and the cause very important, maybe she worked too hard! One of her coworkers claimed, ”She died of exhaustion…she was destroyed by the movement.

Activity of the Day:

Set a timer for 10 minutes and sit quietly and take some deep breaths. Close your eyes.  If thoughts come into your head, just let them pass through. Focus on your breath and think kindly about all of your organs (kidneys, stomach, lungs, spleen, muscles, skin) and how they are working together to help keep you alive.

Respond:

List the ways that you relax and have fun as well as doing hard work.
