100 Days of Nonviolence

Day 53

Opening Breath and Affirmation:

Take a few deep breaths and say, I will be Nonviolent by elevating my thinking about world peace and discussing ideas with others.

Quote of the Day:

"Peace is a thing you can’t have by throwing rocks at a hornet’s nest." –in Salt and Pepper

Today in Social Movement History:

March 8, 2014, is International Women's Day! This is a holiday begun by the United Nations to recognize the fact that "women hold up half the sky," and we must celebrate each other!  There are fewer national holidays honoring women than there are men. This one is helping to make up for that!

Saturday's Organization:

The organization featured today is ComEd. This is one of the main lighting companies in Chicago.  They chose a Chicago-area African-American leader for each day of February. You can read all of their profiles here: http://powerofone.comed.com/?utm_source=comed.com&utm_medium=link&utm_co...

Activity of the Day:

ComEd's program asks you to think about the power of one person to light up the life of another. While movements to organize our individual power are key to social change, each of our daily, individual actions also make a big difference.  Think of one person of African descent and/or one female-bodied individual who has made a difference in your life.  Write or call them today.  If they have passed on or are not reachable, write about them and send it in to ComEd, who invites anyone to nominate a neighborhood hero.

Respond:

Write or draw about how you feel, now that you are over half-way through the 100 days of nonviolence. How has your perspective on violence and nonviolence changed?

To close, take another deep breath and repeat the affirmation.
