100 Days of Nonviolence

Day 47

Opening Breath and Affirmation:

Take a deep breath and say, I will be Nonviolent by turning toward peace wherever I go.

Quote of the Day:

"We have grasped the mystery of the atom and rejected the Sermon on the Mount. Ours is a world of nuclear giants and ethical infants. We know more about war than we do about peace—more about killing than we do about living." –General Omar Bradley

Today in Social Movement History:

On March 2, 1867, the US Congress created the Department of Education.

Sunday's Character of Nonviolence:

Father Greg Boyle is the founder of Homeboy Industries in East Los Angeles, an organization that grew out of the efforts of many in the neighborhood to reduce the plague of gang violence and improve the quality of life.  Homeboy's motto is "nothing stops a bullet like a job," and Father Greg, a monk, is the author of Tattoos on the Heart: The Power of Boundless Compassion.  Homeboy Industries and the Homegirl cafe are internationally recognized efforts that include a bakery, case management, education, a garden, solar panel installation, etc. Check them out! More about Father G, as he is affectionately called, here.
