100 Days of Nonviolence

Day 40

Opening Breath and Affirmation:

Take a deep breath and say, I will be Nonviolent by remembering my ancestors and their struggle.

Quote of the Day:

"Peace is never just the result of human effort, and never practical in the sense of being done by human power alone." –Richard McSorley

Today in Social Movement History:

On February 23, 1395, Johannes Gutenberg, typographer/printer was born.

Sunday's Character of Nonviolence:

Bernice Johnson Reagon is the character of nonviolence for today. She was a "Freedom Singer" in the Civil Rights Movement, and went on to lead Sweet Honey in the Rock.  Many of their songs remember the struggle of the ancestors and also encourage young people. Ella's song based on Civil Rights Movement leader Ella Baker is an example of this.

Activity of the Day:

Listen to Ella's song by Sweet Honey and the Rock.  If you feel inspired, write a song about your ancestors.

Respond:

Write or draw (or write a song) about one of your ancestors (living or passed away) that inspired you.
