100 Days of Nonviolence

Day 34

Opening Breath and Affirmation:

Take a deep breath and say, I will be Nonviolent by taking responsibility and NOT BLAMING others for my actions.

Quote of the Day:

"If there were no greed, there would be no occasion for armaments." –Mohandas K. Gandhi

Today in Social Movement History:

On February 17, 1942 Huey P. Newton, Co-founder of the Black Panther Party was born.

Nonviolent Word of the Day:

MEDIATION – intervention in a dispute by a neutral third party with expertise on a particular issue for the purpose of securing a compromise, an agreement or reconciliation. A mediator can not impose a binding agreement

Activity of the Day:

Create a simple scenario where a conflict mediator could be helpful.  Two people represent the parties in conflict, and one the mediator...who helps the parties see the other's needs, and helps them come to a workable agreement (sometimes called a win-win solution).

Idea: The dishes need to be washed, and person A needs help.  But person B, who has a busy life, says they don't have time to wash them.
Idea: Person A likes music on around them all the time, but does not necessarily like to wear headphones. Person B does not like the type of music that Person A listens too, and the music distracts them.

Respond:

Write or draw something about the violence you experienced today.

To close, take another deep breath and repeat the affirmation.
